Forgotten

She searched high and low, Far and wide
To find her love, someone to call her own
Little did she know, she had to go nowhere special
As he was already on his way and found her at the right time

They lived through work and pain, toiling day after day
through commitment earning their golden bliss and joy
Children and pride and long nights of worry
Beautiful years, end to end, flying by like golden days

Now she’s searching for his wrinkled and spotted hand
But he doesn’t want to give it when she asks
He is losing his person, his sharpness, his wit
He sometimes finds her in golden moments

When he does remember, she is always his buttercup
He remembers her name backwards now, but one moment clearly
The day they first met, her blue eyes in the evening sun
Less and less of the rest still drifts up in his mind,
And she keeps searching, for golden seconds

When he smiles
And she smiles
And they’re them
And they feel alive
