Holding

She grabs his hand and thanks him for coming
And says “Sorry son, I don’t remember you”
He softly reminds her “I was there the whole time”
She says “Of course, You seem nice.”

She rubs his hand as she starts her story
And says “It’s been rough, but we’re doing ok.”
He replies “I’ve brought flowers, I’ll place them later”
She says “Thank you, you are really nice.”

She keeps rubbing his hand and starts explaining
And says “We don’t know where to put the ashes.”
He replies “It must be difficult to decide”
She says “I wish I could ask him what he wants.”

She keeps holding onto his hand, her lifeline
And says “I do remember you now, I’m so sorry”
He replies “That’s okay, I understand, it’s fine”
She says “I’m so sorry, It has just been a lot.”

She says “But how are you doing?”
He replies “You know, I am okay. Busy.”
And he adds “I am holding on.”
She says “Look after yourself.”
And they smile and let each other go .
