There goes another shard of the whole
It bounces across the kitchen floor
By the leg of the kitchen table
Look how it comes to rest
Another piece flies through the air
Your voice filling the room
I’m distracted as my eyes follow
The piece landing under our couch
A big chunk falls in slow motion
Like an iceberg descending in sea
Shrapnel of crystals flies all over the room
For a moment I cannot breathe
Your angry words hammering
Vicious comments pickaxe sharp
Chipping away at once indestructible us
I’m too tired to glue us together again
