Today

Today I was productive.
I cleaned the flat,
Shopped for groceries,
Cooked a healthy meal.
I was smiling, as if it was nothing.

Today was one of those days
Where nothing is as it seems,
And everything has a high price
A day when breathing alone hurts.
Today I hid my feelings behind my smile.

Today I paced through the flat,
Waving a cloth around.
It took me 45 minutes to put my shoes on.
I didn’t look up as I raced to the store,
Choosing ingredients near the exit.

Today I did things.
I cleaned,
Bought food,
And ate some of it.

Today I was surviving.
And today, I am,
Nonetheless,
Proud.
